This is a bbq sauce meant to use for both glazing and as a side dish. If you use it for glazing, add another tablespoon of brown sugar. It has a nice soft sting from the ground ginger and Worchestershire sauce, but it isn’t hot in any way.
Servings 4
Ingredients
- 14 oz strained tomatoes
- 2 tbsp Chinese soy sauce
- 1 tsp Worchestershire sauce
- 9 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp ground ginger (dried)
- 2 tbsp cognac
- 0.5 tbsp liquid smoke
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a pan. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, and then let it cool off. Store it in the fridge, and serve it cold.
I see the recipe calls for strained tomatoes. Is this a rather thin product ( That pours about like water out of the can), or a much thicker product, More like canned tomatoes that have been crushed and drained? Great looking ingredient list and I want to make it right the first time! Thank you!
I was also wondering if you could simply cook this on a smoker, in lieu of adding liquid smoke seasoning.
Hi David! I’d say closer to canned tomatoes than water out of the can. And yes, you can definitely cook this on the smoker. Glad you like the recipe, do give it a try and let me know how you like it.
